Hyderabad: Businessman Lost Rs 70K To Fake Liquor Advertisement
Hyderabad: A businessman from Uttar Pradesh, who was in the city on a business trip, lost Rs 70,000 after he fell for a fake liquor home delivery advertisement on Google.
According to police, the man, who came to the city on June 15 and was staying in a star hotel in Banjara Hills, had searched online for liquor since a lockdown was in vogue. He contacted a number he found and later, got a call from a person promising door delivery of liquor bottles.
“The fraudster asked for an advance before initiating the process. The victim sent him his bank account and credit card details, including the OTP he got on his mobile phone. Within a few minutes, Rs 70,000 was debited from his account in two instalments,” the police said, adding that based on a complaint, the Banjara Hills police had registered a case and were investigating.
