Hyderabad Esports Careers Gain Confidence, Finds Survey

India’s esports landscape is showing strong signs of maturity, with Hyderabad emerging as a city where players increasingly see esports as a serious career option. A JetSynthesys x YouGov Indian Esports Report found high confidence among esports athletes in Hyderabad, reflecting growing ambition, wider career awareness, and rising acceptance of esports as a professional pursuit.

The report noted that 84 per cent of daily esports players in Hyderabad view esports as a financially viable career. Of them, 47 per cent described it as very viable. This confidence is translating into intent. About 79 per cent of esports players in the city said they have considered pursuing esports professionally. The findings point to a shift in mindset, where esports is no longer seen only as a hobby but as a long term career path.

Confidence in Hyderabad esports careers strengthens

The survey highlighted that Hyderabad players are thinking beyond short term gains. Many respondents linked career confidence to the expanding structure of the esports industry. Players also showed growing belief that esports offers stability when backed by proper systems and support. Meanwhile, the report described this phase as a critical point for India’s esports ecosystem, with ambition rising faster than formal frameworks.

However, the study also found that players believe key enablers are still catching up. About 88 per cent of respondents in Hyderabad said government recognition and regulation are important for the sector’s growth. The same percentage stressed the need for infrastructure such as gaming cafés and arenas. Access to career counselling and mentorship was cited as critical by 89 per cent of respondents. Social challenges also remain. Around 83 per cent said family support, social stigma, and acceptance continue to affect career choices.

Career ambitions expand across esports ecosystem

Hyderabad’s esports players are showing interest in a wide range of roles. While 58 per cent aspire to become competitive players, many are exploring other options. About 48 per cent expressed interest in streaming or content creation. Meanwhile, 30 per cent showed interest in coaching, 42 per cent in team management or event organisation, and 32 per cent in esports journalism or commentary. This reflects a broader understanding of esports as a multi layered industry.

The report also found that esports is increasingly viewed as a sport in Hyderabad. About 60 per cent of daily players said esports is comparable to physical sports and mental disciplines such as chess. Also, 70 per cent are comfortable calling professional esports players athletes, while 52 per cent already identify themselves as athletes.
