HYDERABAD: In a powerful display of civic bravery, Mohammed Feroz, a resident of Golconda, was officially felicitated by the Hyderabad Commissioner of Police on Monday for rescuing an eight-year-old girl from a suspected kidnapper.
The Incident
The harrowing ordeal began on April 1, when an auto driver identified as Saleem allegedly abducted the young girl near her school. According to police reports, the suspect drove the child to a secluded location where he began to misbehave with her.
The rescue unfolded as Feroz was leaving a local mosque. He noticed the child crying hysterically inside a parked auto-rickshaw and, sensing something was wrong, immediately intervened.
“Feroz noticed the child’s distress and intercepted the vehicle. When he questioned the terrified girl, she revealed the driver’s actions. As Feroz confronted him, the suspect panicked, abandoned the child, and fled the scene,” stated VC Sajjanar, Hyderabad Commissioner of Police.
A Coordinated Rescue
Feroz took the girl into his protection and managed to obtain her father’s contact information. While he was calling the family, the girl’s parents were already in a state of frantic distress near her school.
The situation was quickly resolved thanks to the presence of Abids Police Station Blue Colts constables, Sai Krishna and Kedar Singh. While patrolling the school zone, they noticed the father’s panic and, upon hearing about Feroz’s call, rushed to Golconda to secure the child and reunite her with her family.
Justice and Recognition
The swift reporting led to the prompt arrest of the accused.
- Accused: Saleem (Auto Driver)
- Arrest Date: April 2
- Charges: Kidnapping and harassment; the vehicle was seized, and the suspect has been remanded to judicial custody.
On Monday, during a ceremony at the old Commissioner’s office in Basheerbagh, senior officials honored Feroz with a traditional shawl, a Certificate of Appreciation, and a cash reward for his exemplary courage.
The Commissioner praised Feroz as a “Good Samaritan,” noting that his willingness to get involved saved a young life and served as an inspiration to the entire city.
