Hyderabad: Man Recovers From Covid
Hyderabad: A 32-year old bodybuilder, who had a severe Covid-19 infection, got a fresh lease of life at Yashoda Hospitals here in Hyderabad. Actor-philanthrophist Sonu Sood also came to his aid and played his part in the recovery of the youngster.
An accomplished bodybuilder representing Telangana in multiple competitions, Susheel Kumar Gaikwad from Malkajgiri had developed fever and cough in the last week of April and was diagnosed with Covid and admitted initially in a local hospital. As he was severely afflicted with Covid-19, his condition deteriorated and was not able to maintain saturation despite non-invasive ventilation.
He was then shifted to Yashoda Hospitals, Malakpet and a multidisciplinary team including pulmonologists, intensive care specialists, respiratory therapy, physiotherapy and allied specialists attended to him and the latest Covid treatment including antivirals, steroids and other medication was started.
Susheel’s lung was almost completely involved with a CT severity score of 25/25. He required intubation and mechanical ventilation besides advanced modes of ventilation, proning, early tracheostomy and other measures were initiated. He also had developed septic shock requiring antibiotics, antifungals besides vasopressors and optimised fluid management.
Susheel made an amazing recovery not requiring ECMO support and was progressively shifted from ICU to Stepdown to room. After a prolonged course of more than a month since the onset of symptoms, he was discharged from the hospital, said Dr. Pavan Gorukanti, Director of Yashoda Hospitals Group.
Sonu Sood personally reached out to help Susheel. Yashoda Hospital said Sonu Sood facilitated the transfer of the patient to hospital and followed up with encouraging video calls to Susheel almost every day.
