Hyderabad Monsoon Alert: GHMC Lists 358 Unsafe Structures, Takes Action
Hyderabad, Aug 13 (Maxim News): In the wake of heavy rains, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has issued a caution to citizens regarding dilapidated structures within the city.
According to officials, 358 structures have been identified as dilapidated ones. Residents are advised to exercise caution in and around these buildings, and GHMC authorities have stated that necessary measures will be taken to address the issue and ensure public safety.
The GHMC Commissioner, R.V.Karnan, has directed all officials to be alert and ensure proper action in dilapidated structures and cellar excavation. He asked the officials to recheck the dilapidated structures and cellar excavations and take instant action.
Of the 685 dilapidated structures, action has been taken on 327 structures, with follow-up pending on the remaining 358 structures. GHMC has already served notices, obtained the structures’ stability, and counselled the owners to vacate the premises.
Regarding the excavation of cellars, GHMC officials identified 154 excavations. Works at 61 sites, such as the construction of retaining walls, have been completed, and retaining walls are under construction at the remaining 93 sites. GHMC initiated action against 52 unauthorised cellars by issuing notices.
GHMC is also tracking critical dilapidated structures and counselling property owners to vacate them.
In view of heavy rains for two more days, the GHMC cancelled the leaves of the Town Planning officials and instructed them not to leave the headquarters without prior permission. (Maxim News)
