HYDRA To Engage ‘Yuva Apada Mitra’ Volunteers During Disasters
Hyderabad, Feb. 24 (Maxim News): HYDRA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath announced that the services of trained ‘Yuva Apada Mitra’ volunteers will be utilized during natural calamities.
He also stated that these volunteers will be given preference during recruitment to the HYDRA Disaster Response Force.
The Commissioner addressed volunteers after distributing certificates to those who successfully completed training under the ‘Yuva Apada Mitra’ scheme.
A total of 105 young volunteers from Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts underwent a week-long training program at the HYDRA training centre in Fathullaguda from February 18 to 24.
During the training, volunteers learned essential rescue techniques and emergency response skills to protect lives during disasters.
The Commissioner said that since these youth reside locally, they would be the first responders during emergencies.
Moreover, they will work in coordination with teams from various departments that arrive for rescue and relief operations.
He encouraged each trained volunteer to prepare at least 10 more youth in their respective localities and assure residents that help is readily available during emergencies.
Additionally, he advised them to remain prepared to assist HYDRA during heavy rains and flood situations.
Training Should Benefit Them for Life
Commissioner A.V. Ranganath emphasized that building an environmentally sustainable and flood-resilient city is the government’s priority.
He stated that HYDRA is taking proactive steps to protect lakes and drainage channels as part of flood prevention measures.
He added that the disaster management training received by the volunteers should serve them throughout their lives.
During the interaction, he reviewed their understanding of HYDRA’s activities and the skills learned during the program.

The volunteers appreciated HYDRA’s efforts in protecting parks, lakes, drains, government lands, and public-use spaces.
They also expressed confidence that the training had removed their fear of handling disaster situations and strengthened their sense of social responsibility.
The participants affirmed that they are ready to support HYDRA as committed ‘Yuva Apada Mitra’ volunteers.
The valedictory event was attended by HYDRA Additional Commissioner R. Sudarshan, Additional Director Varla Papaiah, RFO Jayaprakash, DFO Yagnanarayana, Inspector Shamsuddin, and ADFO Mohan Rao. (Maxim News)
