“I Don’t Know Which Party Kavitha Belongs To”: TPCC Chief Slams BRS Over BC Quota Remarks

Hyderabad, July 12 (Maxim News): Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Mahesh Kumar Goud has strongly defended the Congress government’s decision to implement 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in local body elections, calling it a historic and revolutionary step toward social justice.

Speaking to media today, Goud said that the Congress party has set a national benchmark by implementing the highest-ever BC quota in the country’s democratic institutions. “It is the proudest moment of my political life to be TPCC President at a time when this social revolution has begun in Telangana,” he said.

Taking aim at the opposition, Goud questioned the credibility of BRS and its leaders, particularly Kalvakuntla Kavitha, over their stand on BC reservations. “I don’t understand which party Kavitha actually belongs to,” he remarked sarcastically, pointing out the contradiction in her public celebration of the quota despite continuing association with the BRS — a party he claims failed to support BCs during its tenure.

Goud further criticized the BRS for its past alliance with the BJP, alleging that the party had supported every bill brought by the Modi-led government in Parliament, including those that hurt the interests of marginalised communities. “The BRS is trying to confuse people now. But their track record shows they were never sincere about BC empowerment,” he asserted.

He recalled that the BC Declaration was first announced in Kamareddy while he was serving as the working president, and said the Congress remains fully committed to fulfilling every promise made in that declaration.

Addressing critics who mocked the Congress move as a publicity stunt, Goud said, “It doesn’t matter if we aren’t given credit in textbooks. What matters is that we are changing lives. It is unfortunate that some leaders can’t even come forward to celebrate this landmark achievement.”

He urged the public to see through the political doublespeak and recognize the Congress party’s consistent efforts to deliver social justice, particularly to the BC community.
