IAF chopper airlifts two stranded shepherds in Godavari
Mancherial, July 14: An IAF chopper air lifted two shepherds stranded in the overflowing Godavari river on the outskirts of Somanpalli village in Chennur mandal on Thursday. After local MLA Balka Suman asked Municipal Administration minister K T Rama Rao for assistance in rescuing the two shepherds, the air force helicopter was called into action. In response, the government dispatched a chopper to the settlement, where it safely retrieved the two. The shepherds’ helicopter touched down in Ramagundam in the Peddapalli district. Rama Rao was complimented by Suman for agreeing quickly to offer a chopper.
On social media, a video of the rescue effort quickly gained popularity. After hearing about the disaster and braving heavy rain, Suman and Collector Bharati Hollikeri headed for the area to keep an eye on the Chennur rescue effort. The MLA spent the previous two days keeping an eye on the flood situation and the response efforts from his camp office.
Shepherds from Somanpalli named Sarayya and Gattaiah travelled to adjacent woodlands to graze goats but became trapped in the floodwaters. On the outskirts of the settlement, they were able to climb up onto an overhead tank used for a drinking water system. The floodwaters overflowed the tank.
