Illegal immigrants arrested at multiple immigration checkpoints in California have drawn attention after US authorities confirmed that a large number of those detained were Indian nationals. Border Patrol agents arrested a total of 49 illegal immigrants during enforcement operations carried out at immigration checkpoints across the state. The US Customs and Border Protection disclosed the details on Wednesday, highlighting the scale of the action.
According to officials, out of the 49 illegal immigrants arrested, 30 were Indians. Authorities stated that several of those detained were found driving semi trucks while holding commercial truck driver licenses. Others were discovered to be living illegally in the United States and were taken into custody during routine and targeted checks. Therefore, the arrests were part of a wider effort to enforce immigration laws and address safety concerns on highways.
Meanwhile, officials explained that the Trump administration had earlier suspended work visas and commercial driver licenses issued to foreign truck drivers. This decision followed a series of fatal truck accidents reported in the United States. As a result, enforcement agencies increased monitoring of commercial trucking operations. Border Protection agents then launched focused action against those operating semi trucks with commercial driver licenses despite lacking legal status.
As part of this drive, Border Patrol agents arrested 42 illegal immigrants who were operating semi trucks with commercial driver licenses. This operation took place between November 23 and December 12. Officials confirmed that among these 42 individuals, 30 were from India. The remaining detainees were from China, Mexico, Russia, and Turkey. Therefore, Indian nationals formed the largest group among those arrested during this phase of the operation.
Later, authorities revealed that seven more illegal immigrants were arrested under Operation Highway Sentinel. This operation specifically targeted commercial trucking companies operating in California. With these additional arrests, the total number of illegal immigrants arrested rose to 49. Officials said the operation aimed to identify violations linked to immigration status and commercial driving regulations.
Authorities stressed that these measures were taken to prevent violations of immigration laws and ensure the safety of the country’s highways. Meanwhile, Border Protection teams continue to monitor trucking routes and checkpoints. Officials reiterated that such enforcement actions will continue as part of ongoing efforts to maintain road safety and uphold immigration rules across California. (Maxim News)
