Illegal Sale of Fake Oxytocin Injections, Three Arrested

Hyderabad, April 30 (Maxim News): The Task Force, South-West Zone, along with Mangalhat police, raided a shop in Hyderabad and apprehended three people for selling fake oxytocin injections.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, S. Rashmi Perumal, said that the raid, conducted based on credible information, targeted a shop near Jet Cafe, Old Mallepally, run by Suresh Kumar Gupta. The shop was illegally selling fake oxytocin injections at high prices to customers.

The accused Suresh Kumar Gupta (70), businessman, Goshamahal, Lala Babu Yadav (35), housekeeping person, preparer/auto driver, Attapur, Abdul Haji (28), housekeeper, Nampally Government Hospital, Hyderabad and seized 100 injection bottles (200 ml each), 1 bottle of acetic acid (2 liters), 12 bottles of phenol I.P (carbolic acid crystal I.P) (poison), Other mixing equipment.

Oxytocin injections are banned by the government to prevent misuse in the veterinary field. However, the main accused, Lala Babu Yadav, prepared fake oxytocin injections by diluting carbolic acid (phenol) with acetic acid and water.

Abdul Haji, a housekeeper, supplied the carbolic acid, which is not readily available for domestic use due to its poisonous nature.

Suresh Kumar Gupta, who runs a cattle feed shop, then sold these fake injections to farmers and dairies to increase milk production in cattle. This practice is dangerous to both the cattle and humans consuming the milk.

A case has been registered against the accused under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 336 (endangering human life), 273 (adulteration of food or drink intended for sale), and 34 (common intention), along with Section 18(c) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

This raid and arrest were executed by the South-West Zone Task Force led by Inspector S. Bala Swamy and SI S. Sai Kiran, along with Inspector of Police M. Mahesh and the staff of Mangalhat police station.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, S. Rashmi Perumal, commended the task force for their vigilance in curbing this harmful practice. (Maxim News)
