India Bans All Imports From Pakistan

Delhi/Hyderabad, May 3 (Maxim News): India-Pakistan relations have deteriorated further after the Pahalgam terror attack. In this context, the Indian government has imposed a ban on all types of imports from Pakistan.

The Commerce Ministry said in a statement that this decision has been taken in the interest of national security and public interest. The ban came into effect immediately. It applies to all products originating from or transiting Pakistan, including goods in transit.

In this order, all import or transport of all goods exported to or from Pakistan will be banned with immediate effect. The prior permission of the Indian government is required for any exemption from this ban, The Commerce Ministry said in a notification.

Keeping in mind the national security, the Indian government has imposed this import ban to put economic pressure on Pakistan. This ban has been included as a new provision in the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023. As part of this, steps have been taken such as cancelling the licenses to import products from Pakistan and not allowing the entry of any goods.

The ban is likely to have a significant impact on Pakistan’s economy. The Indian government will also try to justify this move on International platforms. Analysts believe that India, which follows a “zero tolerance’ policy on terrorism, has taken this step with the aim of increasing pressure on Pakistan through economic and trade channels, It can be said that India has sent a clear signal to counter the Pakistani government through this move.

The Wagah-Attari border, the only trade route between India and Pakistan, has already been closed after the Pahalgam attack. In addition, the Indian government has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty signed in 1969. The Indian government has canceled all visas from Pakistan.
