Washington/Internet/Hyderabad, Jan 18 (Maxim News): While US President Donald Trump has been threatening to impose tariffs on India, India has been responding quietly. Two US senators have recently urged Trump to pressure India to remove the 30 percent tariff imposed by India on pulses exported from the US to India. They have termed the tariff as inappropriate. North Dakota Senator Kevin Cramer and Montana Senator Steve Daines wrote this letter to Trump. They said that India imposed a 30 percent tariff on American yellow peas (lentils) on October 30 last year, which came into effect from November 1 last year.
This move went unnoticed and the government did not publicize it, he said. At a time when negotiations for a trade deal with India are underway, he urged that steps be taken to provide a better market for American pulses and pulses. In a post by political analyst Navrup Singh, he said that the Indian government is retaliating against the tariffs imposed by the US. He said that a 30 percent tariff has been imposed on imported pulses. The media has not paid attention to the tariff imposed by India. It is believed that India may have taken this step in retaliation for the 50 percent tariff imposed by Trump last year. This could further complicate the US-India trade deal negotiations.
