Indian Student Found Dead On Ottawa Beach After Going Missing
Vamsika, an Indian student residing in Canada, has died under suspicious circumstances. Her body was discovered on a beach, four days after she went missing from her residence. The Indian High Commission in Ottawa has confirmed her death and issued an official statement on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
“We are deeply saddened by the death of Vamsika, an Indian student in Ottawa. We have brought this matter to the attention of the concerned authorities. Local police have informed us that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of her death. We are in touch with the family members, relatives, and the local Indian community to provide all possible assistance,” stated the High Commission of India in Ottawa.
According to available information, Vamsika was from Dera Bassi in Punjab and had moved to Ottawa two and a half years ago to pursue a diploma course.
As per a letter written to the Ottawa Police by the Hindu Community in the city, Vamsika had left her residence on April 25 in search of a rental room and subsequently went missing. Her phone was found to be switched off, which caused considerable distress among her family members. She also failed to attend an important examination the following day.
“On Friday, April 25, between 8:00 and 9:00 p.m., Vamsika left her residence at 7 Majestic Drive to look for a rental room. She went missing thereafter. Around 11:40 p.m. that night, her phone was switched off. Despite repeated efforts by her family and friends, they were unable to reach her. She did not appear for an important examination scheduled for the next day. No information about her whereabouts was available,” the Hindu Community stated in their letter.
Subsequently, the community filed a report with the Ottawa Police Service requesting immediate action to trace her. “We are extremely concerned and, to be honest, very scared. The Hindu community in Ottawa is in deep distress, and that distress is only growing with every passing hour. We request you to intervene urgently and conduct a swift investigation into Vamsika’s disappearance,” said the community in its appeal.
According to media reports, Vamsika’s body was eventually found on a beach in Ottawa.
