International Digital Gang Busted; 13 People Arrested
Bhimavaram/Hyderabad, Nov 27 (Maxim News): Bhimavaram police have busted an international digital arrest gang. Recently, cyber criminals robbed Rs. 78 lakh from retired professor Sharma. They called him claiming to be CBI officials and said that he had received a SIM card. They said that they would fix the difference in the SIM card. Later, they threatened to arrest him digitally.
During this, Sharma gave the gang his Aadhaar and bank account details. The criminals stole Rs. 78 lakh from his account within 13 days. Following this, the victim approached the Crime Branch police. Bhimavaram Second Town Police registered a case and took up the investigation. They started a hunt in 7 teams. A total of 14 people were identified as accused and 13 were arrested. The main mastermind of the case, Rahate J Nayan from Mumbai, is absconding.
West Godavari District SP Adnan Naeem Asmi revealed the details of this case. He said that the victims in such cases are mostly retired employees and single people. He said that the victim received a phone call from Bangalore in the name of a SIM card.
“Seven of the 14 accused had previously worked in Cambodia. Out of Rs. 78 lakh, Rs. 42 lakh has been recovered and Rs. 19 lakh in various bank accounts has been frozen. This is the first time that such a large amount of cash has been recovered in such cases. The accused are from Telugu states as well as Karnataka. Some of them are techies. One worked as a software engineer in a leading company. There is no such thing as digital arrest. If you receive calls in the name of digital arrest, you should contact the police immediately,” the SP said. (Maxim News)
