Hyderabad, Feb.4 (Maxim News): In recent years the social science discourse, particularly Sociology, has moved away from examining social and lived reality of marginal and deprived groups, the reason of which is continuous disconnect between the abstract theoretical presuppositions and lived social experience.
Prof. Muhammad Talib, Centre for Islamic Studies, University of Oxford, pointed out yesterday in the valedictory session of the International Urdu Social Sciences Congress “Social Sciences in South Asia” organized by Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), School of Arts and Social Sciences (SA&SS).
Prof. Talib while delivering valedictory address identified the gradual decline after 1947 in dealing with critical questions in Social Sciences. He requested social scientists to ask tough questions like poverty, health, education, social and economic oppression and reasons for increasing marginality in society with more and more field-based researches.
In his presidential remarks, Prof. Akhtarul Wasey, Padma Shree and Emeritus Professor, JMI, suggested the possibility of Indian secular model as the best and exemplar for the whole world. He stressed the need to initiate dialogue with the diverse and multi-religious Indian society to establish peace and strengthen the secular values of Indian republic.
