Satellite internet is usually difficult to block. But, this ‘kill switch’ tool used by the Iranian government… ( Kill Switch Tool) intercepts the signals coming from Starlink satellites and creates obstacles in that frequency. Due to this, Starlink terminals cannot connect to the satellite. As a result, the internet stops working. According to experts, Iran is already able to block 80 percent of Starlink services with the help of jammers through this technology.

Elon Musk’s Starlink is a technology that provides internet from space. The internet we usually use comes through underground cables or mobile towers. But Starlink works directly through satellites. Normal satellite internet satellites are about 35,000 km. away from the Earth. This takes time for the signal to travel and return. But Starlink satellites are only 550 km above the Earth. This means that the internet speed is high. The signal is received without delay.

Starlink has sent thousands of small satellites into space. These are woven like a net around the Earth. When you use the internet, a satellite above your house receives your signal and provides internet. To use Starlink internet, you need a small satellite dish and a router in your house. It is pointed towards the sky. It receives signals from the Starlink satellites orbiting above. The dish converts the received signal into WiFi and provides internet to your phone or laptop. It is not possible to lay cable in forests, hills or remote villages. Even in such places, you can get high-speed net through Starlink. It provides speeds of 100 to 200 Mbps per second.

Did Iran develop such a powerful military-grade jamming technology on its own? Or did it take foreign help? It has now become a matter of debate. Russia used similar methods in the past during the Ukraine war, and China also has similar suppression tools through its ‘Great Firewall’. In this context, defense experts suspect that this technology may have been provided to Iran from Russia or China.

US President Donald Trump has stepped in to provide internet access to Iranian citizens. He is reported to have spoken with Elon Musk and discussed how to overcome the restrictions imposed by the Iranian government. “The Iranian people have the right to speak freely, and we must stop pushing them into digital darkness,” Trump warned. With the internet shutdown, videos and information related to the protests are not available to the outside world. However, protesters continue to make their voices heard through various alternative channels. The Iranian government is suffering an economic loss of about $1.56 million every hour, but it continues to shut down the internet to suppress the protests. (Maxim News)
