Tehran/Hyderabad, Jan 10 (Maxim News): Iran Protests against inflation and currency crisis have turned violent. People have taken to the streets to protest against rising prices and a record-breaking currency depreciation. Official sources said that 62 people have been killed so far in clashes between protesters and security forces protesting the collapse of the Iranian economy. They also said that a member of the security forces was among them.
More than 2,300 people have been arrested. The protests, which began in the capital Tehran, have now spread to various areas and turned violent. Tensions have reached a peak, especially in the cities of Ajna, Lordegan and Kuhdast, which are mainly populated by the Lur tribe. In some places, the police opened fire as the situation got out of hand. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei branded the protesters as terrorists and warned of strict action. Iranian President Peziz Qasim responded to the protests in the country. The relevant interior minister has been ordered to discuss with the protesters and resolve their issues. People are chanting slogans against Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei at the rallies. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has warned that the US will retaliate if Iranian citizens are shot.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has lashed out at Trump, saying the US president’s hands are “stained with the blood of Iranian protests “. He was referring to the June war with Israel and US support for it. In a speech broadcast on state TV, Khamenei targeted protesters, while his supporters chanted “Death to America”. Khamenei said the Islamic Republic was built on sacrifices and would not bow to pressure. He also said Trump would face a situation similar to that faced by the Shah of Iran in 1979. Iran imposed a nationwide internet shutdown to suppress the protests. But internet monitor Netblocks and Amnesty International have described it as a human rights violation.
