Jagan Defers Decision On Three-Capitals Formula, Finalizes Quota In Panchayat Polls

Amaravati, Dec.27 (Maxim News): After a two-hour cabinet meeting, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday postponed taking a decision on the proposal of three capitals in the State. The cabinet also said to have finalized its decision after taking into consideration the submissions made in a report from another committee.

Agriculture Minister Kurusala Kannababu said the State government will take a final decision on Capital formation in Andhra Pradesh after getting the report from an international consultant firm Boston Consultancy Group (BCG), who are expected to submit their report on January 3. The government will take a final decision on decentralization of development in AP after summarizing both the GN Rao committee report and the BCG report, Kannababu said after the Cabinet meeting.

It may be mentioned here that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had hinted over the possibility of setting up three Capitals in the State on December 17 with the intent to decentralize power. He also recommended that the existing capital Amaravati could serve as the legislative capital, the port city of Visakhapatnam can be developed as the executive capital and Kurnool can become the judiciary capital. On December 20, the GN Rao committee submitted its report over three capital proposals in AP.

The cabinet also decided to build the Machilipatnam Port from its own money. It also finalized the reservations to be followed in the gram panchayat elections. It also decided to buy 108 new vehicles and sanctioned Rs 78 crore for the purchase of 413 new vehicles.

The State Information & Public Relations Minister Perni Nani said the cabinet sub-committee had found that the previous government had committed several mistakes and added that they would act upon the mistakes of the committee as per the advice of legal experts. He also said the State government would take a decision on handing over the inquiry into the mistakes committed by the TDP government to either CBI, CID and Lokayukta.

The minister also said they have already discussed upon shifting of the State capital issue and decided to undertake a detailed study of the reports submitted by GN Rao committee and Boston consultancy group. (Maxim News)
