Hyderabad: Superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has delivered a strong opening at the box office, collecting an estimated Rs 125.25 crore worldwide on its first day.
The Nelson Dilipkumar directorial released in theatres on October 15. According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 59.70 crore net in India on its opening day.
Its India gross collection stood at approximately Rs 70.25 crore. Overseas markets contributed an estimated Rs 55 crore, taking the worldwide total beyond Rs 125 crore. These figures are early estimates and may change as collections are updated.
The opening has strengthened expectations for the sequel, which brings Rajinikanth back as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian. The film attracted strong audience interest across multiple language versions and overseas markets.
Jailer 2 Records Strong Openings Across Regions
Tamil Nadu remained the film’s biggest domestic market, contributing approximately Rs 22 crore on the opening day, according to the supplied trade report.
The film also recorded strong openings in Kerala and Karnataka. The report said it achieved the biggest opening day for a Tamil film in both states, surpassing Leo.
The Telugu states also contributed significantly to the film’s opening. Meanwhile, the Hindi version recorded a respectable start despite limited access to major national multiplex chains.
The film’s domestic performance improved through the day. Early estimates pointed towards an opening closer to Rs 60 crore, but the final reported India gross moved above Rs 70 crore.
The worldwide opening of Rs 125.25 crore places Jailer 2 among the major Tamil cinema openings. However, final rankings may vary depending on whether comparisons use India net, India gross or worldwide gross figures.
The film is also expected to benefit from the extended holiday period, which could support its theatrical run during the coming days.
Its performance over the first weekend will provide a clearer indication of whether the sequel can maintain its strong opening momentum.
