Jaipur-Mumbai Train firing: Fourth Victim Syed Saifuddin is from Hyderabad

Hyderabad August 1: Syed Saifuddin, a 48-year-old resident of Hyderabad, was one of the four people killed in a shooting by an RPF constable on board the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Superfast Express on Monday, July 31.

Saifuddin is survived by wife and three daughters, the youngest of whom is just six months old. AIMIM Nampally MLA Jaffar Hussain Meraj visited the bereaved family on Tuesday.

AIMIM Chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi tweeted:

The accused, Chetan Singh, 34, was arrested with his automatic weapon while trying to flee after passengers pulled the emergency chain near Mira Road station (on the Mumbai suburban network) around 6 am.

Three of the four people killed were Muslims, and the shooting has been widely condemned as a hate crime. In one video that surfaced on the internet, Singh is seen wielding an automatic service rifle and saying, “If you want to stay in Hindustan, vote for Yogi and Modi.”

The shooting is believed to have stemmed from an argument that broke out between Singh and his senior, ASI Tikaram Meena, over religious matters. Singh first fired at Meena inside coach number B-5, then shot dead Abdul Kadir and Saifuddin in the pantry car, and finally killed Asgar Kai, a bangle seller from Jaipur, in coach S-6.

The incident has sparked outrage across India, and calls for justice have been growing. The government has promised a speedy investigation, and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the case.

Saifuddin’s death is a tragedy, and his family is in our thoughts and prayers. “We hope that the perpetrators of this heinous crime are brought to justice, and that we can work together to create a more tolerant and inclusive society” said a resident.
