Dispute Over Address and Tone

This incident marks the second occasion this week where Dhankhar referred to Jaya Bachchan as “Jaya Amitabh Bachchan,” a practice she has strongly criticized. Bachchan expressed her displeasure, stating, “I am an artist and understand body language and expressions, but your tone is not right. We are your colleagues, but your tone is unacceptable.”

Dhankhar responded by defending his stance. “Jaya ji, you have earned a great reputation. But I do not wish to repeat myself daily or provide schooling. You are talking about my tone? Enough of it. You must understand decorum. You can be a celebrity but must respect parliamentary decorum.”

Calls for Apology

Bachchan emphasized her long tenure as a Member of Parliament and demanded an apology, asserting, “He said you may be a celebrity, I don’t care. I am not asking him to care. I am stating that I am a member of Parliament. This is my fifth term. The way things are being spoken in Parliament today is unprecedented. I want an apology.”

The incident reflects ongoing tensions within the Rajya Sabha and highlights issues of decorum and respect in parliamentary proceedings. (Maxim News)
