JPC Report On Waqf Bill Tabled In Parliament: Chaos In Both The Houses
Delhi/Hyderabad, Feb 13 (Maxim News): Today is the last day of the first phase of the Budget Session of Parliament. There was chaos in both the Houses as soon as the session began at 11 am. BJP MP Medha Kulkarni tabled the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) report on the Waqf Bill in the Rajya Sabha. On the other hand, the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2 pm due to similar chaos.
Minister for Minorities Welfare Kiren Rijiju answered the questions of the opposition on the JPC report in the Rajya Sabha. Kiren Rijiju said that members of his ministry regularly attend the JPC meetings. He asked the opposition to read the report and then respond. He said that those who raise questions are also members of the JPC.
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said that the opposition will not accept the JPC report tabled in the House on the Waqf Bill. He requested the Chairman to send it back for discussion. Kharge said that no party’s opinion has been taken into consideration on the Waqf Bill. There was a huge uproar in the Rajya Sabha over the JPC report on the Waqf Board.
The JPC submitted its draft report to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on January 30. The report is 655 pages long. 16 members voted in favor of it. 11 Members opposed it. Opposition MPs in the committee opposed the bill.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman introduced a new Income Tax Bill in Parliament today (Thursday). The government has said that the aim is to simplify the existing Income Tax Act-1961 and make the Income Tax Act understandable to the common man.
The new Income Tax Bill is simpler than the existing Income Tax Act 1961. However, it has more sections and schedules. The 622-page new bill has 536 sections in 23 chapters and 16 schedules. The current Income Tax Act has 298 sections and 14 schedules, 880 pages. Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha proceedings in Parliament lasted only five minutes. (Maxim News)
