Jubilee Hills Bypoll: Azharuddin’s Induction Seen as Revanth Reddy’s Masterstroke

Jubilee Hills By Elections | Hyderabad, Oct 29 (Maxim News): Telangana is set for a significant political development as the state government prepares for a Cabinet expansion. Reports indicate that former Indian cricket captain and ex-MP Mohammed Azharuddin will be inducted into the Telangana Cabinet following approval from the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

According to official sources, Azharuddin is scheduled to take oath as minister at 11 a.m. on Friday. The state government has already sought an appointment with the Governor for the swearing-in ceremony.

The decision, coming ahead of the Jubilee Hills by-election, is seen as a major strategic move by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to strengthen the Congress position in Hyderabad and among minority voters.

The Telangana Cabinet reportedly proposed Azharuddin’s name for the Legislative Council under the Governor’s quota, following the Supreme Court’s recent cancellation of MLC posts held by Kodandaram and Mir Amir Ali Khan.

Party insiders say that Azharuddin will be inducted into the Cabinet even before taking oath as an MLC, filling one of the three vacant ministerial berths—specifically one reserved for the minority quota.

Political observers view this as a calculated step to counter opposition criticism that the Congress Cabinet lacks representation from Hyderabad and minority communities.

Revanth Reddy’s Masterstroke

With the BRS intensifying its attacks over the issue, Revanth Reddy’s move is seen as a “masterstroke” aimed at consolidating minority support in the Jubilee Hills constituency.

Azharuddin’s name had earlier surfaced as a potential candidate for the Jubilee Hills by-election. However, the Congress high command opted to nominate him as an MLC instead, and now, bringing him directly into the Cabinet is viewed as part of a broader electoral strategy.

The move is expected to have a substantial impact on the political dynamics between the Congress and BRS in Hyderabad.

Azharuddin met Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Tuesday evening, fueling further speculation about his portfolio.

While the Chief Minister currently holds key departments such as Minorities, Home, Municipal Administration, and Education, the final decision on Azharuddin’s ministry assignment remains awaited. (Maxim News)
