Jubilee Hills By-Poll Challenge: Congress, BRS, BJP Leaders Face Crucial Test
- Revanth Reddy, KTR, Kishan Reddy face a key political test
- Election outcome may reshape city and state party dynamics
The Jubilee Hills by-election, set for November 11, has emerged as a major challenge and a matter of prestige for the Congress, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership.
This election is seen as a critical test for Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, BRS working president KTR, and Union Minister Kishan Reddy, with each aiming to secure victory for their party and demonstrate their leadership skills.
For the Congress party, Revanth Reddy’s reputation is on the line. This poll comes two years into his tenure as Chief Minister, and many believe that Jubilee Hills could serve as a people’s verdict on his governance. Although Congress previously won the Cantonment by-election, observers argue that this was too soon after Revanth Reddy became CM to be a true reflection of his leadership.
Therefore, the upcoming contest is being considered as a scorecard for his administration. Winning the seat would solidify his party’s hold on the city and boost the value of the “Revanth Reddy model” blending welfare and development. However, a defeat may spark criticism around unfulfilled promises like the ₹2,500 monthly support for women and other welfare schemes.
For BRS, KTR’s position is also critical. Jubilee Hills is a sitting seat for the party, making this by-election almost a survival test. A win would strengthen KTR’s urban-friendly image and signal public support for policies like bulldozer initiatives, demolition drives, and power reforms.
It would also validate his political acumen, especially since he has been handling party affairs following KCR’s retreat from active politics. Given recent defections from BRS in the Greater Hyderabad area, losing the seat could cast doubts on KTR’s leadership and threaten the party’s urban base.
Similarly, Union Minister Kishan Reddy needs a BJP victory in Jubilee Hills to maintain and grow his political stature.
The constituency falls within Secunderabad Lok Sabha seat, which he previously won. BJP insiders acknowledge concerns that a loss could weaken Kishan Reddy’s image, especially after recent critical comments from opposition leaders and expelled BJP leader Raja Singh.
High expectations mean a decrease in votes this time could be damaging, while success would enhance Kishan Reddy’s position for future contests.
Jubilee Hills has thus become a focal point of political competition, and the by-election result will have significant consequences for each party — not only shaping city politics, but also influencing wider state political trends. The outcome could determine the future direction and leadership strength for Congress, BRS, and BJP.
