Jubilee Hills By Poll: Shock to BJP, 200 leaders join BRS
Hyderabad, Oct 15 (Maxim News): BRS received a large influx from the BJP in the Jubilee Hills constituency, with 200 key leaders and workers joining the party in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
Former Minister Harish Rao welcomed the new entrants with a scarf and addressed the gathering.
Senior BJP women leaders Kalavathi, BJP state executive member B. Lakshmi, state women’s morcha leaders Shailaja, RK Lakshmi, Anuradha, Manjula, Satyavati and others resigned from the BJP and joined the BRS.
The event marked a significant boost for BRS ahead of the Jubilee Hills by-election.
Harish Rao linked the development to the bypoll context and the legacy of the late Maganti Gopinath.
He said, “With the blessings of the people of Jubilee Hills, Gopinath won for five years. Unfortunately, he died.”
He added that the family should be sustained and noted that there are two unmarried daughters.
Therefore, he said, Gopinath’s wife was given a BRS ticket from the Jubilee Hills constituency. He framed the candidature as a moral choice in the wake of a personal loss.
He further said the wife who lost her husband and the children who lost their father are in great grief. However, he criticised Congress leaders over their remarks.
“It is unethical for Congress leaders to speak in a way that insults a girl child who is grieving the loss of her husband.” He added that she was furious that Congress ministers were speaking in a way that insulted her grief.
He alleged that Congress ministers are doing petty politics without any knowledge and without any discretion, and said people are wise and think about good and bad.
Meanwhile, Harish Rao urged voters to weigh the record of parties.
He said one should think about what Congress has done and what BJP has done, and alleged that Congress and BJP have betrayed Telangana.
He also made sharp allegations on civic enforcement, stating that HYDRA is not demolishing big houses, and named both Patnam Mahender Reddy’s house and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy’s house as in the buffer zone. He was furious that Hydra is not demolishing these.
Later, he targeted top national and state leaders over alleged electoral malpractice. On the other hand, he questioned why Rahul Gandhi did not speak up if Revanth Reddy was stealing votes in the Jubilee Hills elections.
He alleged that 20,000 stolen votes were created to defeat Sunitha, who lost her husband in Jubilee Hills.
He called on the Congress to show wisdom in the Jubilee Hills elections if welfare schemes are to reach the poor again.
The remarks set the tone for a heated campaign, while the mass joining underlined BRS efforts to consolidate ahead of the vote. (Maxim News)
