Hyderabad: Junior doctor Lavanya, who attempted suicide in the district, died while undergoing treatment, according to information released on Sunday. The young doctor allegedly attempted suicide by injecting herself with grass. She fell seriously ill soon after the attempt. Therefore, authorities rushed her to hospital for emergency care.
Lavanya was first taken to a government hospital after fellow students found her unconscious in her hostel room. Meanwhile, as her condition worsened, doctors shifted her to NIMS Hospital in Hyderabad for better treatment. However, despite medical efforts, Lavanya died while receiving treatment. Her death has caused deep shock among family members, fellow students, and the medical community.
College staff clarified that the pressure of internship and NEET preparation was the reason for the junior doctor suicide. Lavanya had completed her degree in surgery at Siddipet Medical College. She was doing her internship at the Government General Hospital at the time of the incident. She was a resident of Jogulamba Gadwal district. Meanwhile, sources said the incident occurred on Saturday inside her hostel room.
According to the details available, fellow students noticed Lavanya in an unconscious state and immediately alerted the hostel staff. Then, the staff shifted her to the government hospital without delay. Later, as doctors observed a rapid decline in her condition, they referred her to NIMS Hospital in Hyderabad. However, she did not respond to treatment and died during care.
Meanwhile, based on a complaint filed by Lavanya’s family members, the police registered a case and began an investigation into the junior doctor suicide. Police officials are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident. They are also recording statements from family members and students as part of the probe.
Lavanya’s family members and fellow students were seen crying bitterly after her death. The incident has once again brought attention to the mental pressure faced by young doctors during internships and competitive exam preparation. However, officials stated that the investigation is ongoing and further details will emerge after the probe is completed.
The case has triggered grief across the medical college, with students and staff mourning the loss of a young doctor whose life ended during a demanding phase of her career.
