Jurala Project Sees Continued Flood Discharge as 12 Gates Lifted Amid Heavy Inflow
Hyderabad, June 29 (Maxim News): Floodwaters continue to surge into the Jurala Project in Gadwal district, prompting authorities to lift 12 gates to manage the increasing inflow from upstream regions. The project is currently receiving an inflow of 1.40 lakh cusecs, following sustained rainfall in the catchment areas.
According to officials, 1.15 lakh cusecs of water is being discharged through the spillway, while an additional 25,691 cusecs is being released through power generation, bringing the total outflow to 1,42,830 cusecs.
Water Levels Near Full Capacity
- Full Reservoir Level (FRL): 318.518 meters
- Current Water Level: 317.190 meters
- Total Storage Capacity: 9.657 TMC
- Current Storage: 7.079 TMC
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safe management of the reservoir and downstream flow. Irrigation officials and power station personnel have been placed on high alert to handle any emergencies.
Caution Urged for Downstream Villages
Residents of low-lying areas downstream have been advised to stay alert and avoid venturing near the riverbanks. Disaster response teams are also on standby in case of further rise in inflow or emergency evacuation needs.

The Jurala Project, a crucial irrigation and power-generation source in Telangana, frequently sees high flood levels during the monsoon, and current trends indicate that the reservoir may reach full capacity if inflows persist.
Authorities continue to monitor weather conditions and upstream inflow levels to make real-time decisions about further gate operations.
