Justice Sudershan Reddy: Revanth Reddy Calls for United Telugu Support

Justice Sudershan Reddy | Hyderabad, Aug 19 (Maxim News): Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has appealed to political parties from both Telugu states to support Justice B. Sudershan Reddy as the Opposition’s candidate for the election to the post of the Vice-President of India.

The INDI Alliance block on Tuesday announced the name of the former Supreme Court Judge as its candidate for the poll for the Vice President’s post.

The Chief Minister, along with his cabinet colleagues, speaking to press persons at his residence, today appealed to all Telugu parties to support the candidature of Justice Sudershan Reddy, a distinguished jurist, in the upcoming vice presidential elections. Andhra Pradesh ruling TDP and Jana Sena, YSRCP, and Telangana opposition party BRS, AIMIM.

He said, Sudershan Reddy, if elected as the Vice President of India, will check the BJP government, which is trying to change the Constitution, remove reservations, and also get 42 per cent reservation to BCs. He said that if Justice Sudershan Reddy puts the brake on the Election Commission of India, which is committing irregularities.

On the other hand, the NDA, which announced CP Radhakrishnan as its Vice Presidential candidate, has made efforts to make the election unanimous. As part of this, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is reported to have called Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and asked him to support him.

Earlier, BJP President JP Nadda had also appealed to the opposition parties to elect Radhakrishnan unanimously. With the recent announcement of the opposition party’s candidate, a contest between Radhakrishnan and Justice B. Sudarshan Reddy has become inevitable.

About Justice B. Sudhershan Reddy:

Justice B. Sudhershan Reddy hails from Akulamailaram in Rangareddy district of Telangana. Born in July 1946, he completed his law degree from Osmania University in 1971.

Later, he registered with the Bar Council on December 27 of the same year. He was appointed as a permanent judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on May 2, 1995. He served as the Chief Justice of the Guwahati High Court in 2005. He also served as a Supreme Court judge between 2007-11.

He took charge as the first Lokayukta of Goa in March 2013. He resigned from the post within seven months due to personal reasons. (Maxim News)
