- BRS Complains to SEC Over Ex Officio Registration
Hyderabad: The Kadiyam Kavya double vote issue has reached the State Election Commission. The BRS lodged a complaint accusing Warangal MP Kadiyam Kavya of registering as an ex officio member in two civic bodies. The party termed it a violation of rules and the election code.
According to the complaint, Kavya was sworn in as MP and as an ex officio member of the Warangal Municipal Corporation. However, she was later registered as an ex officio member in Thorrur municipality as well. The BRS alleged that this move enabled her to vote in both civic bodies.
Lalitha Reddy Flags Rule Violation in Thorrur
Speaking after lodging the complaint, BRS legal cell member Lalitha Reddy cited procedural lapses. She said the law mandates a 30 day notice for such registration. “Instead, it was processed within two days, enabling her to vote. This is legally untenable,” she said. Therefore, the BRS urged the SEC to initiate strict action.
Meanwhile, BRS leader Kishore Goud accused the ruling Congress of misusing power. He alleged that the party was pumping money and resorting to intimidation in municipalities where it lacked clear numbers. He added that similar tactics were being used in Ibrahimpatnam and Thorrur.
Political Tensions Rise in Thorrur Municipality
In Thorrur, the BRS won 9 of 16 wards, while the Congress secured 7 wards. However, the tally was levelled after the ex officio votes of the local MLA and MP were added. The BRS claimed that Kavya’s inclusion was pushed through due to political pressure despite initial objections from officials.
Tensions escalated further after Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy allegedly blocked BRS councillors from reaching the oath taking venue. As a result, authorities deployed heavy police forces and imposed prohibitory orders around the municipal office.
Meanwhile, political friction continues to mount over the chairperson and vice chairperson elections in Thorrur. The SEC is now expected to examine the Kadiyam Kavya double vote complaint and take an appropriate decision.
