- Kamareddy tragedy shocks town as auto driver accused of drowning daughters
- Shabbir Ali urges society to support poor families after Kamareddy tragedy
Hyderabad: The Kamareddy tragedy, in which an auto driver allegedly drowned his three minor daughters in a lake, has shocked residents and triggered calls for stronger social support for struggling families. Senior Congress leader and Telangana Government Advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir visited the bereaved family and appealed for compassion and community support.
Police said the accused, an auto driver facing severe financial distress and addiction problems, reported on March 6 that his daughters aged eight, six and five were missing. However, investigators later found inconsistencies in his statements. During the probe, he allegedly attempted to mislead the police. Further interrogation and tracking of his movements revealed that he had taken the children to a lake and drowned them one after another. Police later arrested him and remanded him to judicial custody on charges of murder.
Meanwhile, the brutal killing of the three children sent shockwaves across Kamareddy town. Many residents expressed grief and anger over the incident. People gathered to mourn the loss of the young sisters and demand justice.
Later, Mohammed Ali Shabbir visited the family on Monday evening. He met the children’s mother, who lost all three daughters in the tragic incident. During the meeting, he expressed deep sorrow and described the event as a painful reminder of the consequences of poverty, social neglect and the lack of timely support for struggling families.
Addressing those present, Shabbir Ali said the tragedy should serve as a wake up call for society. He urged communities to recognise distress within families before it leads to catastrophic outcomes. He also observed that while many spend lavishly on social functions, some families struggle quietly to meet basic needs.
He further urged people to rethink how charity and community support are practised. According to him, instead of offering occasional donations, society should help poor families build sustainable livelihoods. He said enabling a person to earn a living, such as helping them acquire an auto rickshaw or support a small business, could change their lives and prevent desperate situations.

“If society fails to recognise and support those suffering from extreme poverty, such tragedies may continue to occur,” he said.
His remarks were echoed by local community leaders and religious scholars who attended the gathering. They said the tragedy highlighted the urgent need for social awareness and compassion. Representatives from different communities also attended and stressed that such incidents should unite people beyond social or religious differences.
During the visit, Shabbir Ali announced immediate financial assistance of Rs. 25,000 for the grieving mother. Municipal councillors, community leaders and local residents also contributed funds. Several councillors pledged Rs. 5,000 each, while others offered smaller contributions.
By the end of the meeting, contributions from local leaders and residents had crossed approximately Rs. 1.06 lakh. The amount was handed over to the victim’s family to help them deal with the immediate crisis. Shabbir Ali advised that the funds should be kept safely and used for the mother’s survival and future needs.
He also urged officials and community leaders to explore ways to provide her with stable livelihood support and secure housing so that she could rebuild her life.
During the gathering, Shabbir Ali also appreciated the police for solving the case quickly. He noted that officers worked through the night during the investigation to trace the accused and uncover the truth behind the disappearance of the children.
However, residents expressed anger over the brutality of the crime and demanded strict punishment for the accused. For many people in Kamareddy, the tragedy has raised serious questions about poverty, mental stress, addiction and the lack of support systems for vulnerable families.
Shabbir Ali said the incident should not be seen only as a crime but also as a warning to society about the dangers of ignoring distress within communities. He urged people to become more vigilant and compassionate so that similar tragedies can be prevented in the future.
