Hyderabad, Feb. 16: The contest for the Karimnagar Corporation Mayor post has reached a dramatic stage. The election process is set to begin shortly.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party has officially announced its candidates and moved ahead in the race.
The BJP has declared Kolagani Srinivas as its Mayor candidate. It has also named Sunil Rao as its Deputy Mayor candidate.
The party submitted both names to the election officer, thereby formally entering the contest. With this move, the BJP signalled its intent to capture the Mayor’s chair in Karimnagar Corporation.
BJP Faces Magic Figure Hurdle
Although the BJP emerged as the single largest party by winning 30 seats in the Karimnagar Corporation elections, it faces a challenge in reaching the magic figure. Earlier, with Union Minister Bandi Sanjay counted as an ex officio member, the BJP’s strength stood at 35. However, the numbers shifted after an AIFB corporator joined the Congress. As a result, the BJP’s effective strength dropped to 34.
Therefore, the race for the Mayor post has turned intense. The BJP is close to the required majority but still needs additional support to secure the chair. At the same time, the Congress is working on its strategy to block the ruling party’s attempt. The situation remains fluid, and both sides are actively engaged in political manoeuvring.
Independents Hold the Key
Now, the votes of independents and other members have become crucial. Their support is likely to determine the final outcome. While the BJP is trying to consolidate its numbers and claim the Mayor post, the Congress is aiming to counter the move with its own strategy.
As the election process begins, political tension continues to rise inside the Karimnagar Corporation. The final result will depend on how both parties manage to secure the required majority in this closely contested battle.
