Kavitha Resignation As BRS MLC: Seeks Speaker’s Nod
Hyderabad, Jan 5 (Maxim News): K Kavitha resignation as BRS MLC unfolded in an emotional atmosphere in the Telangana Legislative Council on Monday. The senior leader urged the Speaker to accept her resignation and formally announced her decision to leave the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). While delivering her farewell address, she recalled her long public journey and the circumstances that led to her suspension, becoming visibly emotional during the speech.
She said she joined the Telangana movement in 2006, inspired by KCR garu and Professor Jayashankar garu. However, she stressed that she never planned to enter active politics. Later, she accepted the Nizamabad Parliamentary ticket offered by BRS after careful thought. Through Jagruthi, she said she worked to mobilise women and youth, protect Telangana’s culture, document its history, and fight for the rights of marginalised communities and local employment. After the formation of Telangana, she continued to raise post-bifurcation issues and referred to the completion of the long-pending Peddapalli–Nizamabad railway line.
However, she said her freedom of expression was gradually curtailed within the party. Meanwhile, despite KCR garu’s opposition to outsourcing, the contract system expanded after state formation. When she questioned these decisions, she alleged that the party turned hostile and pushed her out through a conspiracy. She also raised concerns over the removal of Dharna Chowk, arrests of farmers, corruption in major public projects, and poor-quality construction works. According to her, speaking the truth led to her marginalisation, while Telangana activists were neglected and even veterans of the 1969 movement went unrecognised.
Kavitha: I Have Courage To Question KCR Directly
She said that as KCR garu’s daughter, she had the courage to question him directly. While she could have accepted the rejection of one or two requests, the repeated neglect of serious injustices was unacceptable. Therefore, she opposed the decision to change the party’s name from TRS to BRS, stating that it shifted focus towards national expansion while neglecting Telangana. She also accused the BJP of betraying Telangana by denying national project status, failing on bifurcation assurances, blocking ITIR, and diverting investments elsewhere.
Later, she criticised BRS for acting without constitutional spirit. She said the party framed an eight-page “joke” constitution and created a disciplinary committee overnight to suspend her without notice or explanation. Though she could have legally challenged the suspension, she chose not to. Swearing on God and her children, she said her struggle is purely for self-respect, not assets, despite Congress claims.
She concluded by highlighting the severe underrepresentation of women in Telangana politics. While taking a new path, she said her mission remains the welfare of Telangana’s people. She vowed to return as a strong political force, build a party that truly serves the people, and fight for students, the unemployed, and women. (Maxim News)
