Kazipet Railway Division Proposal Sent By KTR

  • KTR seeks Kazipet Railway Division to ease Secunderabad load
  • Railway restructuring highlights need for Kazipet division

Hyderabad, April 1: K. T. Rama Rao has urged the Centre to form a Kazipet Railway Division. He wrote to Ashwini Vaishnaw seeking immediate action. The proposal focuses on reducing the heavy operational burden on the Secunderabad Division.

In his letter, KTR said the ongoing railway restructuring has increased pressure on Secunderabad Division. The division now covers 2,755 track kilometres. Moreover, it may expand to about 3,150 kilometres with new line additions. He noted that this size exceeds the normal administrative range seen across Indian Railways divisions.

Meanwhile, he compared it with other divisions. Vijayawada and Guntakal divisions operate around 2,200 track kilometres. In contrast, Guntur Division remains under 900 kilometres. Therefore, he said Secunderabad Division stands as an outlier in size, complexity, and traffic density.

KTR stressed that forming the Kazipet Railway Division is both logical and necessary. He proposed including key sections such as Kazipet–Balharshah and Peddapalli–Nizamabad. He also listed Kazipet–Yerrupalem, Dornakal–Manuguru and Sathupalli, Motumari–Vishnupuram, and Kazipet–Wangapalli. Together, these sections form a high-density network of about 1,500 to 2,000 track kilometres.

He also asked the ministry to review certain redistribution plans. He urged authorities to withdraw the transfer of the Peddapalli–Nizamabad section to Hyderabad Division. Instead, he recommended assigning it to the proposed Kazipet Division. Similarly, he called for revisiting the plan to shift the Latur Road–Parli Vaijnath section to Nanded Division.

KTR highlighted Kazipet’s strategic location. He said it lies at the junction of major trunk routes. He also noted major infrastructure upgrades, including triple lines towards Balharshah and Vijayawada. In addition, a quadruple line between Secunderabad and Kazipet has been sanctioned, boosting capacity.

He further pointed to new facilities in the region. These include a railway manufacturing unit at Kazipet. A Rolling Overhaul shed and locomotive maintenance units at Mahabubabad also add to its importance.

According to KTR, the proposed division will handle freight-heavy routes. These include coal from Singareni, cement, fertilizers, food grains, and power sector inputs. Therefore, he stressed that focused administrative oversight is needed.

He said the current load on Secunderabad Division has led to delays in decisions. It has also created challenges in maintenance and safety supervision. Hence, he argued that a new division would improve efficiency and decentralise operations.

In conclusion, KTR said the Kazipet Railway Division will support regional growth. It will also improve railway services in North and East Telangana. He urged the Union Government to approve the proposal quickly.
