KCR cheating Woman Self Help Groups: Uttam
Hyderabad, Sept.5 (Maxim News): Former president of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee and Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy strongly alleged on Sunday that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has cheated the Woman Self Help Groups of the state.
He addressed the media along with TPCC working president and MLA T Jagga Reddy, All India Mahila Congress general secretary and Telangana Mahila Congress incharge Fatima, president of Telangana Mahila Congress Sunita Rao, Woman Congress leaders Madhavi Reddy, Madhavi and PCC general secretary B Kishan.
Reddy said that the state government owes about Rs 4250 crores to the Women Self Help Groups of the state. He demanded the government to immediately release these amounts.
He said that the government did not pay a single rupee towards the interest of the loans being taken by the Woman Self Help Groups of the state under VLR (Vaddi Leni Runalu) scheme after K Chandrasekhara Rao has become Chief Minister of the state for the second time in 2018.
“In the past two years and 10 months the government did not pay single rupee towards the interests of the loans being taken by the WSHGs of the state. The government did not release Rs 2200 crores of interest to 3.85 lakh SHGs of the rural areas and Rs 750 crores to the 1.52 lakh SHGs of the urban areas. On the whole the government owes Rs 3000 crores to the SHGs of the state under VLR scheme,” he said.
Uttam said that the government owes Rs 5000 to Rs 10000 of interest each to 66 lakh members of the SHGs of the state. He said that the government has to pay Rs 50,000 to Rs 1.50 lakh to each SHG on the average.
On the top of it the government has retained Rs 1256 crores of premium being paid by the Self Help Groups of the state towards insurance under Abhaya Hastam scheme.
With this the total dues of the government payable to the SHGs reaches to Rs 4,256 crores.
He said that the government has not been paying ex-gratia under Abhaya Hastam scheme to the deceased members of SHGs. He said under Abhaya Hastam scheme, government has to pay Rs 25,000 in the case of natural death and Rs 75,000 in case of accidental death within 24 hours.
He alleged that let alone paying the interests of the SHGs, the government has been bringing pressure on the groups to pay the interest from their own pockets to the banks. He said that a Mandal Parishad Development Officer Sudhakar has been suspended for nonpayment of interest by the SHGs of his mandal.
He said that the Congress has launched the Self Help Group programme under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi to empower the women of the Country. The Congress felt that unless the women living in the remote areas of the state were not empowered financially, economic development of the country was not possible.
However, the TRS government under the leadership of K Chandrasekhar Rao has cheated and fooled the SHGs in the past seven years. He said that the public representatives and officials of the mandals have been complaining on the issues of the SHGs wherever he has goes.
Uttam wanted the Telangana Women Congress to fight for the rights of the Self Help Groups and to rein in the government so that the dues of the SHGs are paid. (Maxim News)
