KCR Govt. Imposes Section 144 Near Collapsed Medigadda Barrage
Hyderabad, Oct 23 (Maxim News): Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s government imposed section 144 near the collapsed Medigadda Barrage in Jayashankar Bhupalapalli districts.
Members of the Central Water Corporation will visit the barrage. The gate was broken as the barrage sank the 20th pillar. As the water continues to flow to Lakshmi Barrage, the authorities are lifting 57 gates and releasing 45,260 cusecs of water. The inflow to the barrage continues to be 12,240 cusecs.
Officials of the Irrigation Department said that they are investigating the accident of the Medigadda barrage. As the barrage is currently in the possession of L&T, it has been clarified that the responsibility for the restoration also lies with that company.
Kaleshwaram Project ENC Nalla Venkateshwarlu said that the Medigadda barrage has collapsed up to the 20th pillar feet under the 6th block. He said that the authorities were immediately alerted and investigated after a loud noise was heard near the barrage on Saturday evening.
Venkateshwarlu said that he could not say anything now because there was water in the barrage. After the water recedes, the accident will be investigated and the full details will be given. At the time of the accident, there was 10 TMC of water stored in the barrage, he said. to reduce the severity of the accident, the gates near the 20th pillar were closed and water was released downstream from the other gates, ENC Venkateswarlu said.
Union Minister Kishan Reddy said that the Kaleshwaram project was an utter flop. He asked how many TMCs were given in five years. He alleged that the project was built to steal people’s wealth. He said that he would write a letter to the Central government regarding the Kaleshwaram project irregularities. (Maxim News)
