KCR kits help increase institutional deliveries: Harish Rao

Hyderabad, March 11 (Maxim News): Health Minister T. Harish Rao today said the KCR Kits being implemented by the State government had helped them in increasing percentage of institutional deliveries from 30 percent to 56 percent in the government hospitals in the State. He said the deliveries had gone up to 36 percent after 2014.

Replying to the questions raised by the members in the Assembly during question hour, Harish Rao said there was no scope for the development of health infrastructure in the State before the formation of Telangana State. He said they had distributed 10.85 lakh KCR kits by spending ₹1387 crores since June 2, 2017. He also said they had spent &₹407 crore to set up 22 mother and child care centres in the State. He said of the total centres, 16 had been completed and the remaining eight centers were at different stages of completion.

Rao said they had also set up paediatric ICUs and maternal ICUs at the mother and child care Centers. He said the MMR rate had come down from 92 percent to 63 percent and IMR rate had come down from 39 percent to 23 percent in the State since 2014. He also said the NMR rate had come down to 16 percent from 25 percent and added that the State had achieved 100 percent vaccination from 68 percent.

Commenting on the annual budget, Harish Rao said they were launching a new scheme called Nutrition Kit Scheme which would be implemented in nine districts. He also said the scheme would be launched in April. On the C-sections, the Health Minister said the C-sections were coming down and added that there was a need to create awareness among pregnant women about the advantages of normal deliveries. He said only 20 percent of the total surgeries performed in developed countries were C-sections. He said they were now going ahead to achieve 75 percent of the institutional deliveries in the days to come. (Maxim News)
