KCR Obstructing Political Growth Of All Others For His Son: Gudur

Hyderabad, March 3: Congress candidate for MLC elections under MLAs quota and TPCC Treasurer Gudur Narayana Reddy has strongly condemned Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao for encouraging defections in opposition parties to win the fifth MLC seat.

Speaking to media persons here on Sunday, Gudur Narayana Reddy said that the Congress party had the required strength to win the fifth MLC seat under MLAs quota. However, he alleged that the Chief Minister was trying to engineer defection of two Congress and two TDP MLAs into TRS to illegally win the fifth seat. “KCR is openly violating the Anti-Defection Law while displaying utter disrespect to the Constitution. He wants to grab power by murdering the democracy and all its norms,” he said.

“Congress party has 19 MLAs while the TDP has two legislators. Both the parties had a pre-poll alliance had contested the last Assembly elections as Grand Alliance. A day before the declaration of results on December 11, an all party delegation had met Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan and submitted a memorandum asking him to treat all the parties in Grand Alliance as a single entity. Therefore, technically and ethically, the Congress strength should be of 21 MLAs. However, by making Congress and TDP MLAs defect to TRS, KCR is slaughtering the legislature and its spirit,” Gudur Narayana Reddy said.

The Congress leader said every individual posses some aspirations and work hard to grow in his career. “I’ve been working hard for the people since several decades. The Congress party gave me an opportunity to become a Member of Legislative Council and with required strength on my side, I’m fully eligible and also deserve to get elected. But in order to pursue his mean and cheap political goals, KCR is trying to throttle my political career. While KCR wants to see his son KTR become a Chief Minister, he doesn’t want my mother, who is over 76-year-old now, to see her son become an MLC. By doing so, KCR won’t get any praises, but only curses. KCR’s over-indulgence in unethical and immoral politics will ultimately ruin the political prospects of his family members and they will suffer due to the curses of those whose careers were spoiled by the Chief Minister under arrogance of power,” he said.

Gudur Narayana Reddy said TRS has won 88 out of 119 seats in last Assembly elections. “While KCR can feel proud over his victory, he must also admit that TRS was defeated in remaining 31 seats and work hard to win even those constituencies in next elections. However, by trying out to buy out opposition MLAs, KCR was insulting the people of those constituencies by challenging their decision and wisdom,” he said.

“KCR has sufficient numbers to rule the State for the next five years. However, by pursuing the mission of ‘Congress Mukt Council’, KCR will not gain anything but only loose respect and dignity. In his first term, KCR had purchased 25 MLAs and over a dozen MLCs from other parties. In this term too, he purchased four MLCs to deprive the Congress of the status of main opposition. This is not a healthy practice in a democracy as it does not sync with the will of the people,” the Congress leader said and added that the Congress party would explore all means to thwart KCR’s attempts to prevent the implementation of Constitution in Telangana,” he said.

Gudur Narayana Reddy said that the Congress Legislature Party has already announced a three-day agitation programme in protest against KCR’s unconstitutional move of encouraging defections in opposition parties. He said that the Congress party would approach the Election Commission of India and also explore legal means to restore democracy and ensure that MLC elections are held in a fair manner.
