KCR sore over Centre releasing funds directly to local bodies

Hyderabad, May 18 (Maxim News): Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today expressed displeasure over the act of the Union government releasing funds directly to the rural local bodies surpassing the State governments. The Chief Minister felt that the Centre has set a bad precedent and its action can’t be justified for surpassing the State governments for the implementation of certain programs.

KCR held a high level meeting with officials at the Pragathi Bhavan here on Wednesday and discussed about the plan of action for the Palle Pragathi and Pattana Pragathi programs, which are going to commence from May 20 across the State.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the Central government was implementing a few schemes like Jawahar Rozgar Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employement Guarantee Scheme and others where the funds are being directly released to the rural local bodies, ignoring the State government. “It’s a bad practice to ignore the State governments and to transfer funds directly to the local bodies. The local conditions are different from a State to State. How the persons can fix wages by sitting in Delhi without knowing the local conditions of a State. This practice had started since the regime of Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and all the Prime Ministers have been following this without having faith in the three-tier system of Panchayat Raj,” he pointed out.
