KCR to visit Medaram – T Kumbha Mela site on Friday

Hyderabad, Feb.17 (Maxim News): Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will visit Medaram Jathara in Mulugu district on Feb 18. KCR is to take a helicopter to reach the site to pray and offer obeisance which is known as Telangana Kumbha Mela. KCR will present traditional Jaggery called Gold to the deities at the site on Feb 18. The CM will pray the Tribal Goddesses to bless the state with development. Ministers Indrakaran Reddy and Dayakar Rao and officials to accompany the chief minister to attend the rituals and pray for well being of the state.

The biennial Tribal festival of Sammakka and Sarakka began on February 16 and will end on February 19 (Saturday). The state government spent Rs 75 cr towards facilities at the site. All arrangements have been made by the officials concerned to ensure smooth conduct of the four days of festivities. As per jatara traditions tribal pujaris brought Sarakka to the site on Feb 16 night and on 17 they will bring Sammakka to the altar. On Feb 18 the people will pray both the two goddesses and participate in the festivities District Collector, SP and administration of Mulugu has made all arrangements for smooth and complete facilities for devotees. About 10000 police personnel guarding the site for hassle free movement of the events. Officials concerned have made repeated reviews and put in place all facilities.

The officials expect about 1 crore and above devotees from various states including Andhra Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Maharashtra and others.

About 70 lakhs of Tribals from various states came to the jathara so far and about 40 lakh more are expected to see the tribal goddess, according to reports.

The state government says that Medaram Jatara deserves UNESCO recognition for being the oldest ritual. (Maxim News)
