KTR Issues Ultimatum On Worker To Owner Scheme In Sircilla
Hyderabad, Dec. 31: BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao on Monday demanded immediate implementation of the Worker to Owner scheme in Sircilla before Sankranti, warning of a massive protest if the deadline is missed.
Addressing party leaders and weavers in Sircilla, KTR said the Congress government must launch the Worker to Owner scheme without further delay.
KTR insisted that the beneficiary list be finalised before Sankranti and allotment letters issued to eligible handloom workers. Otherwise, he warned, the BRS would organise a maha dharna with nearly 10,000 weavers in Sircilla.
KTR, speaking as the Sircilla MLA, accused the Congress government of deliberately delaying the scheme for two years.
KTR said the programme was weakened despite being designed to transform weavers into owners. Therefore, he demanded full budgetary allocation for subsidised power looms in the coming budget.
Worker to Owner scheme deadline sparks protest warning
KTR said the BRS would mobilise weavers across Sircilla if the government failed to act. He stated that the protest would continue peacefully until the government responded. He added that Sircilla has a history of successful movements and this agitation would also succeed.

Highlighting the background, KTR recalled that former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao conceived the Worker to Owner scheme. He said KCR aimed to end the cycle where weavers remained workers under middlemen. The scheme sought to promote ownership and sustainable incomes.
KTR also cited the Batukamma saree initiative, which provided orders worth Rs 3,400 crore to Sircilla weavers. He said the initiative increased monthly incomes and revived the textile sector.
Moreover, he alleged that the Congress government neglected infrastructure worth Rs 400 crore, including idle sheds at the apparel park.
The BRS reiterated its demand for immediate action. KTR said the party would not retreat until the Worker to Owner scheme is fully implemented.
