Hyderabad, Dec.1 (Maxim News): IT Minister KT Rama Rao urged BJP led Government at Centre to amend Indian Penal Code (IPC) and criminal procedure code (CrPC) to punish rapists of women and girls immediately across country.
In a twitter, KTR made an appeal to Prime minister Narendra Modi to this extent.
He also asked the Modi government to discuss in the parliament on the issue a day and bring in amended and sharpened laws. KTR appealed to Prime Minister to take necessary measures in the parliament to give the Act more teeth to punish rapists. KTR urged Modi government to amend the laws without scope for review and offer death sentence to rapists of women and girls.
He said that not doing justice to the kin immediately is equal to denying the justice. KTR recalled that despite seven years of Nirbhaya Act, the country failed to implement death sentence to rapists so far. He expressed concern and grief that while a lower court gave death sentence to a rapist of a nine months old, high court changed it as life sentence.
The Modi Government has to make use of sharpened laws to punish the guilty immediately, he said.
His remarks get importance in the wake of sensational rape and murder by four culprits in Shamshabad incident wherein a veterinary doctor Priyanka Reddy lost her life.
KTR further said that though police nabbed the culprits, they cannot give any assurance to the bereaved family members. They demand death sentence to criminals, he said.
KTR said that the culprits not fearing to the existing laws should be given death sentence. Time has come to amend speedily the old laws to protect the nation from such animals. He said that on behalf of crores of people seeking immediate justice in such cases, country needs amended and sharpened laws. (Maxim News)
