Kul Hind Jamiyath Ul Mashaikh gears ups against Uniform Civil Code
Uniform Civil Code | Hyderabad, Dec 18 | Kul Hind Jamiyath Ul Mashaikh (KHJM) has unanimously passed a resolution against the private bill introduced by the Member Parliaments in the Rajya Sabha on the Uniform Civil Code at its executive body meeting in Hyderabad today.
KHJM has also resolved that their units in Telangana as well as in the country will campaign against the proposed private bill on UCC to bring awareness among the people and to build pressure on their elected public representatives belonging to all the secular parties to strongly oppose the Bill when it comes for the discussion. As part of this initiative, it has been decided to organize awareness programs and soon a round table meeting will be organized in Hyderabad, involving Political leaders, lawyers, and Religious Leaders of all Communities.
KHJM Chief Moulana Syed Shah Ahmed Noorullah Quadri said that if the UCC has to be brought, it should be based on the 1937 Sharia Act, which will benefit all the communities.
Moulana alleged that the union government at the center is threatening the pluralistic fabric of India and it is against the guarantees given in the Indian Constitution and prevents observance of personal law. Moulana said that UCC will not only be opposed to the Muslims but will also apply to various other communities who follow their own traditions and rituals, it will also affect Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Lingayats, and other minorities as well in many tribal societies.
Syed Shah Mustafa Ali Sufi Quadri, General Secretary, Syed Shah Abul Fateh Bandagi Badshah Qadri, Joint Secretary, and Member TSWB, Moulana Faizullah Abdul Bari, Treasurer, Executive Members Dr. Syed Shah Samilullah Hussaini Bandanawazi, Syed Shah Nadeemullah Hussaini, Sufi Shah Mohd. Ahmedullah Iqbal Quadri Chisti, Syed Ashfaquddin Ahmed Quadri, AhmedUllah Shah Quadri Chisti, and others were present.
What is the Uniform Civil Code Bill:
Uniform Civil Code in India Bill, 2018 is legislation proposed by the Bharatiya Janata Party in the year 2018, in Lok Sabha with the object of providing a common civil code or common law for every citizen who is residing in India irrespective of their religion, race, cast, etc. in the entire geographical territory of India.
What are personal laws?
Laws that apply to a certain group of people based on their religion, caste, faith, and belief made after due consideration of customs and religious texts. The personal laws of Hindus and Muslims find their source and authority in their religious ancient texts.
In Hinduism, personal laws are applicable to legal issues related to inheritance, succession, marriage, adoption, co-parenting, obligations of sons to pay their father’s debts, the partition of family property, maintenance, guardianship, and charitable donations. In Islam, personal laws apply to matters relating to inheritance, wills, succession, legacies, marriage, wakfs, guardianship, divorce, gifts, and pre-emption taking roots from Quran.
