Local Body Elections in Telangana: Key Decisions Expected This Week
Hyderabad, Aug 23 (Maxim News): The Telangana State Congress Political Affairs Committee (PAC) will meet at Gandhi Bhavan at 5 pm on Saturday to discuss this. A cabinet meeting will also be held at the Secretariat on Monday. Along with the issue of when the local body elections will be held, discussions will also be held on the report given by the Justice Ghosh Commission on Kaleshwaram, as well as on the conduct of assembly sessions.
Ministers and BC leaders are already expressing different opinions on the dates of local elections. That is why it seems that CM Revanth Reddy has decided to discuss this in the PAC meeting to be held on Saturday. Clarity on the election date will come after the opinions of senior party leaders are also collected. It seems that a final decision on this will also be taken in the cabinet meeting. However, many of the ministers are saying that it is better to hold local body elections soon. On the other hand, PCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud told CM Revanth that the elections should be held after it is known what decision the Center will take regarding the 42 percent reservation for BCs.
It is understood that the PAC meeting will discuss the issue of party-based reservation for BCs in the state. If this has to be implemented, the opinion of district-wise leaders will also be sought. It is already known that the High Court has ordered that local body elections be held by the end of September. Official sources suggest that it is better to hold them within that deadline. BRS, BJP, and Congress are criticizing the urea shortage in the state. This issue will also be discussed in the PAC meeting. They will also discuss the appointments of party committees at the rural, mandal, district, and state levels, and the proposals received by districts to fill vacant nominated positions. They will also talk about the strategy to be followed for the upcoming Jubilee Hills by-election.
On the other hand, it is known that Rahul Gandhi’s recent allegations of vote rigging have created a sensation across the country. He has also called on the party ranks to launch a nationwide movement on this issue. Mahesh Kumar Goud said that the party will also organize programs in Telangana in this regard. How to organize these will also be discussed in the PAC meeting. It is also said that the party ranks will be alerted district-wise for the local body elections. (Maxim News)
