Hyderabad: With a nation-wide lockdown for three weeks, IT Minister KT Rama Rao took it upon himself and went on a overdrive responding to several SOS messages mostly from expecting mothers and patients from different parts of Telangana State and its neighbouring States. Besides assuring them necessary help, he directed his team to coordinate and address their grievances.
It all started with the Minister’s response to a SOS message from a journalist seeking help for a medico who is stranded in Mangalore and wanted to return to her parents living in Hyderabad.
The 23-year-old medical student is pursuing her studies at Manipal University which had shutdown the hostels and her travel arrangements went topsy turvy. Though she was able to stay back in Mangalore, the Minister received several requests and he attended to over a dozen cases within next one hour.
Another was a case of a pregnant woman from Kurnool, who wanted her mother living in Borabanda in Hyderabad to accompany her during the time of pregnancy. She stated that due to the lockdown, her mother was unable to reach her.
Another pregnant woman expressed concern over missing her scan scheduled on March 28 at a private hospital. A resident of Hyderabad, said to have went to East Godavari in Andhra Pradesh for an emergency, but could not return due to the lockdown.
The Minister promised her safe return to Hyderabad. Husband of an expecting mother from Bhadradri Kothagudem district, also got stranded in Hyderabad and wanted to return to his family to take care of his pregnant wife. He was promised support.
Rama Rao also attended to others expressing concern over missing their chemotherapies, dialysis sessions and other medical care. He informed them that all emergency services including treatment for life-threatening diseases will continue.
