According to the latest Election Commission figures, the NDA led in 39 seats (the BJP in 36, the RLD in two, and Apna Dal (S) in one) against the INDIA bloc’s 40 seats (the Samajwadi Party in 34 and Congress in six). Chandrashekhar of the Azad Samaj Party (Kanshiram) is leading in Nagina.

Among the key Lok Sabha candidates in Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav were leading from the Varanasi, Lucknow, Rae Bareli, and Kannauj Lok Sabha seats, respectively.

Union ministers Smriti Irani and Anupriya Patel (Apna Dal (S)), and senior BJP leader Maneka Gandhi were trailing in the Amethi, Mirzapur, and Sultanpur Lok Sabha seats, respectively

The counting is underway for all 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh. The BJP’s big bastion in the past two general elections is currently witnessing an epic neck-and-neck battle between the ruling NDA and the opposition INDIA bloc comprising Samajwadi Party and Congress.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the NDA won 62 of the 80 seats, while the BSP and Samajwadi Party, then allies, won 10 and five seats, respectively.
