The reason for this is the suggestions made by the government in the interim budget.  He emphasized that while the government has increased the allocation for the health sector in the interim budget, the government will focus on improving the health sector.  One of the biggest demands is that every citizen of the country, not just the poor, should benefit from a health insurance scheme like Ayushman Bharat.

When it comes to the interim budget, the government has allocated Rs. 90,171 crores.  This is higher than the previous budget allocation of Rs. 79,211 crore.  However, our country spends only 2 percent  of its GDP on health.  In this background, experts are now demanding to increase it to 3 percent.  It is said that the common people will get the benefit.

Experts suggest that everyone in the country should get the benefit of health insurance.  It is believed that if the government expands schemes like Ayushman Bharat, people will get health insurance at a lower cost.  By expanding the scheme, the middle class people will also benefit.  It is suggested that the government should focus on this.

“Government will expand schemes like Ayushman Bharat or Comprehensive Health Insurance Cover to provide quality healthcare to every citizen.  The government should aim to allocate 2.5 percent to 3.5 percent of GDP for health care in the upcoming budget. Due to this, we will be able to take steps towards universal health insurance coverage in the country,  say health experts.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has also put forward a similar proposal to the government.  It is suggested that the government should move towards minimum universal health insurance.

Health experts are of the opinion that the government should focus on improving the state of health infrastructure in the country. A recent report by Knight Frank stated that the country currently has 70,000 hospitals for its population of 140 crore, 63 percent of which is in the private sector. Only 1.3 hospital beds per 1000 people are available in all public and private hospitals in the country.  But taking 3 beds per 1000 people is standard.  To meet this target, India still needs to develop 24 lakh bed capacity.

If this is the case, the government has also increased the allocation for the Ayushman Bharat scheme in the interim budget presented in February.  About Rs. 7200 crores have been allocated for this purpose.  A special allocation of Rs.646 crore has been earmarked for the Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission.
