Hyderabad, August 10 (Maxim News): The Telangana government conducted a Maha Varuna Yagam at Nagarjuna Sagar seeking abundant rainfall across the state.
The Vedic ritual concluded at Vijay Vihar on the banks of the Krishna River with traditional ceremonies and chants by Vedic scholars.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and his wife participated in the ritual. They performed the prescribed ceremonies under the guidance of the priests and offered the Purnahuti.
Priests and Vedic scholars from the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple at Yadadri led the religious proceedings. A total of 108 Ritwiks conducted the rituals using 11 Homa Kundas.
Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and his wife also participated in the Varuna Yagam. The ceremony sought the blessings of Varuna, the deity traditionally associated with rain.
During the ceremony, the Chief Minister prayed for plentiful rainfall across the Krishna and Godavari river basins. He also prayed for the welfare and prosperity of people across Telangana.
The Chief Minister expressed hopes that the Krishna and Godavari rivers would flow at healthy levels. He also prayed for reservoirs, including Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar, to receive adequate inflows.
He further prayed for every lake and pond in the state to receive sufficient water. He also sought a rise in groundwater levels and good crop yields.

The Chief Minister said the government organised the ritual with the broader intention of ensuring prosperity and wellbeing for the people.
The government said such rituals form part of India’s longstanding spiritual traditions. It also stressed that scientific planning and weather assessments would continue alongside respect for cultural practices.
The Varuna Yagam comes amid concerns over rainfall patterns and their impact on agriculture and water resources. The government is also monitoring rainfall forecasts and water availability while planning for the agricultural season.
The ceremony brought together senior government representatives, elected leaders and public representatives.
Telangana Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy attended the programme. Ministers Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Konda Surekha also participated.
Government advisers K. Keshava Rao and P. Sudarshan Reddy attended the event. Former minister K. Jana Reddy and other public representatives were also present.
The government said its efforts would continue through administrative planning and water management measures. The Varuna Yagam was conducted as a traditional religious observance alongside those efforts. (Maxim News)
