Six people have been injured after eight coaches of the Mahakoshal Express, traveling from Jabalpur to Delhi, derailed in Kulpahar in Uttar Pradesh’s Mahoba district.
The accident happened at around 2 am. The reason for the derailment is not yet known, and an investigation has been started in this regard. According to the Ministry of Railways, the rear coaches of the train have derailed. The unaffected coaches left the site of the accident at 6:45 am and are headed for their destination – Delhi’s Nizamuddin Railway Station.
Manjar Karar, a spokesperson of the Northern Railways said that the derailed coaches include one coach of 2nd AC, three coaches of 3rd AC, and the remaining were sleeper coaches. Rescue staff, railway police and administration officials are currently at the spot, sources in the railway ministry have said. The chief medical officer of the area – Sunil Kumar Vashnay is also at the site of the accident.
The Mahakaushal Express derailment in Uttar Pradesh is the eighth train accident since October last year.

No casualties were reported in the derailment but there was a discrepancy in the number of injured reported in the accident, while railway officials said the number was 12, the police said at least 40 passengers had suffered injuries in the derailment.

A goods train derailed at Karunagappalli station near Kollam in Tamil Nadu, causing disruptions in long-distance rail traffic between Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam.

The Bhubaneswar-Bhadrak passenger train collided with a goods train near Kathojodi station in Cuttack in Odisa, as they were running on the same track. Two coaches of the passenger train derailed following the collision. Two GRP employees died and 27 people were injured in this accident.

Nine coaches of Pune-bound Jammu Tawi-Pune Jhelum Express carrying 165 people derailed, injuring three people.

In one of the worst train accidents in India in a long time, 14 coaches of the Patna-Indore Express derailed early November 20 morning in Kanpur Dehat district. At least 147 passengers died, while over 180 were injured. Moti Paswan, Dayashankar Patel and Mukesh Yadav, who were arrested by the Bihar police on January 17, confessed to their alleged involvement in the incident.

The engine and two coaches of the Guwahati-bound Capital Express derailed in North Bengal. The train, which had originated in Bihar, derailed near Shamuktala Road station in Bengal. At least two people died, while 10 were injured.

Nine coaches of the Bhubaneswar-bound Jagdalpur-Bhubaneswar Express derailed, and at least 27 passengers were killed, while 36 were injured in this accident.

The Delhi-bound Kalindi Express derailed at the Tundla Junction in Uttar Pradesh. Two trains, an express train and a freight train, were running on the same track, when the express train rammed into the freight one from the back. Following this, three coaches of the train and the engine derailed.

A train rammed into an ambulance at an unmanned level crossing at Mannekote-Talaka road near Challakere in Chitradurga district in central Karnataka. Some patients were being transported from the Talaka government hospital to their villages in an ambulance when the accident ocurred, killing four women, including the mother of a newborn. The ambulance driver misjudged the speed of the approaching train and tried to get through the crossing but the train hit it from the back and the ambulance toppled into a ditch.
