- Pipeline carrying Singur reservoir water ruptures in Hyderabad
- Employees Colony and Shiva Sai Colony flooded after 2.30 am burst
Hyderabad: Major pipeline burst flooded several residential colonies in Manikonda in the early hours of Tuesday, February 16. The drinking water pipeline, which carries supply from the Singur reservoir to Hyderabad, ruptured around 2.30 am. As a result, large volumes of water gushed into nearby areas and caused widespread flooding.
The sudden pipeline burst released heavy flow into Employees Colony and Shiva Sai Colony. Consequently, basements of several apartment complexes were flooded. Parked cars and two wheelers were submerged in water. Residents woke up to water entering their premises, while motorists struggled to move through the affected roads.
Meanwhile, police, fire services personnel, HYDRAA teams, and municipal authorities reached the location soon after receiving alerts. They immediately began relief and control operations. Officials worked to manage the heavy water flow and secure the affected areas. However, the flooding had already caused visible damage in parts of the colonies.
The incident also damaged the road near the burst point. Therefore, traffic was disrupted and commuting became difficult in the area. Residents and motorists were caught off guard due to the sudden flooding during the early morning hours. Movement in and around Manikonda slowed as authorities took steps to control the situation.
Officials said the nearby Pandena Vagu helped drain much of the water. As a result, the flow did not spread further into adjoining colonies. This natural drainage helped limit the extent of damage. Authorities are continuing efforts to manage the situation and assess the losses caused by the pipeline rupture.
