Major Setback for Maoists: 12 Naxalites Surrender to Police in Bhadradri Kothagudem
Hyderabad, June 19 (Maxim News): In another significant blow to the Maoist movement, 12 Naxalites, including key leaders, surrendered before police and CRPF forces in Bhadradri Kothagudem district on Thursday. The surrender took place at the Ramachandrapuram Police Headquarters in the presence of District SP Rohit Raj and senior CRPF officials.
Maoist Leadership Weakens Further
Among the 12 who surrendered — comprising 9 men and 3 women — were two division committee members and four members from the Area Committee Member (ACM) cadre. The group hails from neighbouring Chhattisgarh state, where Maoist activity has remained high over the years.
SP Rohit Raj noted that this development is part of a larger trend, stating,
“Since January 2025, as many as 294 Maoists from various cadres have surrendered under the Telangana government’s Operation Cheyuta.”
The operation aims to encourage Maoist cadres to shun violence and return to the mainstream by offering rehabilitation and support.
Telangana’s Rehabilitation Efforts
The surrendered Maoists were provided with ₹25,000 in immediate assistance, and the authorities have assured further help to support their reintegration into society. SP Rohit urged remaining Maoists to take advantage of the government’s surrender policy and contribute to peace in the region.
Maoists Face Continuing Losses
The surrender of these Maoists comes at a time when the outlawed group has been reeling from recent encounters and leadership losses in Telangana and Chhattisgarh, further weakening their operational strength.
